Ingredients

  • 1 loaf french bread Look for a crusty exterior and soft center
  • 1/2 cup salted butter Must be thoroughly softened at room temperature
  • 3 tbsp olive oil Extra virgin olive oil offers the best flavor
  • 3 to 4 cloves garlic Minced finely; see notes for easy alternatives
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley Chopped finely; adds a fresh, vibrant pop
  • 3 tbsp Parmesan cheese Grated; optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, olive oil, minced garlic, and chopped fresh parsley. Mash together with a fork until it forms a smooth, cohesive paste.
  • Using a serrated knife, carefully slice the French loaf in half lengthwise. Place both halves on a large baking sheet.
  • Slather the garlic butter mixture generously over the cut sides of the bread, making sure to reach the edges. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if using.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the bread is golden and toasted.

Notes

Garlic powder: If you don't have fresh garlic, use 1 1/2 teaspoons of garlic powder instead. Texture: For softer bread, wrap in foil before baking. For extra crunch, leave uncovered. Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days.
